When I travel, it is rarely about picking a bunch of random places without some desire to visit. Almost every city or country that I have visited is because I wanted to visit the area for some reason.
Then thinking about the reasons why I have visited some countries got me thinking. What countries have I not visited yet, that I want to visit? There are quite a few countries on this list, but I decided to narrow it down to just my top five.
Just one note before I get started about the pictures below. I had to find some stock photographs to include since I have not visited the countries I have not been able to capture images myself.
Japan
Japan is one of the first countries that I ever had a real desire to visit. I have spent a little time trying to figure out what might have triggered this early on, but cannot recall. For some reason, though Japan does keep popping up as somewhere I want to visit.
When I look at Japan as a country to visit there are plenty of reasons why. If you were to do a Google Image Search for “Japan” the list of reasons quickly mount up. Just a few that have caught my attention from a similar search or through seeing other people’s travel include.
– Mount Fuji, which overlooks Yokohama
– The temples and pagodas
– The cherry blossoms
– The overwhelming cityscapes
I can be certain that there is plenty more to discover beyond these few points. Come to think of it I imagine the coastline would be quite interesting as well. I think you could easily fill in a considerable amount of time in Japan and would love to be able to spend a couple of weeks exploring.
Norway
Norway to me, would be sort of a starting point to explore the area more loosely defined as Scandinavia. But to be specific Norway is the country in this region that has more so caught my attention.
My interest in Norway very much starts with the countryside and fjords. The way that the mountains just dive into the water, creating some rather dramatic scenery. The images that you can find in much of the promotional material for the area do a much better job of describing the area.
Of course, there are the little villages that find a small piece of land to reside on in this dramatic landscape. I could easily see myself spending weeks if not months exploring the countryside.
French Polynesia
One of my favourite ways to travel is by cruise ship, which only developed a few years ago after my first cruise. It has to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable ways to travel. As a result, I have found that there are many small island nations I would love to visit.
I know that there is plenty of beauty to be found in some of the areas around French Polynesia. Especially when you start to look at some of the promotional photographs for the county. However, I am not sure if it is the idea of being able to cruise here or seeing the beautiful area that is more appealing.
China
To be honest, my desire to visit China at some point in the future is only a recent development. In the past, I was more than happy to take it or leave it. However, the more I read about the country and see some of the beautiful scenery in the countryside, the more I want to visit China.
It could be something of a similar experience to when I visited Hong Kong. I visited with the expectation I would be exploring a concrete jungle, purely seeing another city. However, as part of a tour called The Land Between, I discovered a small but beautiful area of countryside.
South Africa
My desire to visit South Africa lands very much in the same boat as China. It is a country that in the past I have had no true desire to visit. That is until I started to see some of the amazing countryside that other bloggers share on a regular basis. You do find it difficult to resist wanting to visit.
Even still in some ways, I am a little torn on whether I want to visit or not. Having known plenty of people who have lived in or visit South Africa it does not sound like the safest place to visit. There would have to be some planning and organising to make it happen, but one day you never know.
